Key Points:

  • Moisture proof
  • Pest resistance
  • Can be easily cut
  • Easy to dry

Color/Appearance:

Beech typically has a pale cream color, and sometimes has a pink or brown tone. Veneer has a tendency to become slightly dark colored, as slicing it usually requires wood preparation with steam, giving the wood a more golden feel. Flat sawn surfaces become very plain, and quarter sawn surfaces show a silvery fleck pattern.

Grain/Texture:

Straight grain with a fine or medium uniform texture.

Workability:

Good overall workability; it machines, glues, turns and finishes well. Also, the Beech reacts superbly to steam bending. There is a large amount of movement in the service, thus movement & wood stability must be considered.

Odor:

No characteristic odor.
