Botanical Name: Tectona Grandis
Average Dried Wt.: 18-22 kg/Cft
Heartwood tends to become dark brown, as the color darken with time.
Teak has a grainy texture with medium-sized open pores. The grains tends to be aligned, though it can be wavy or interlocked at times. Also, the Teak has a slightly oily / greasy tone due to its natural oil.
Teak has great standard for decay resistance, and its heartwood is very durable as well as resistant to termites.
Easy to work in all aspects, but has a caveat that teak comprises a high level of silica which has a marked blunting effect on the cutting edges. Commonly the Teak glues and finishes well. But in some cases it may be required to wipe the wood surface with a solvent prior to gluing or finishing, so as to reduce the natural oil on the wood surface.
Teak can have a leather-like odor when milled freshly.
This species of wood is not listed in the CITES Appendices, or on the IUCN Red List.
